YouTube is home to some of the most vile commenters on the internet—completely void of literacy, accuracy of facts, respect, and goodness in general. Known to many as the cesspool of the internet, the YouTube comment board can be a tough place for a person who's not accustomed to hostility on the web.
"Tracking my cookies? They will never get my recipe!"
This inhospitable environment is filled with inhabitants that you can find on almost every single popular video: the illiterate, the know-it-all, the racist bigot, the religious freak, the homophobe, and the 7-year-old tough ass are just a few of the characters.
If you're like me, the comments can be quite entertaining—to a certain extent. There are some videos that I watch just to read the comments, but then there times when I want to read some insightful and meaningful comments, but it's almost impossible to find those diamonds in the rough.
Thanks to Comment Snob, that just became a whole lot easier.
YouTube has been slowly working on a way to get rid of undesirable comments. While applications like YuleTube have been released to combat this problem, they haven't worked out as well as expected.
Comment Snob, an extension for Firefox and Chrome, filters out undesirable comments from comment threads on the Internet, including YouTube.
Since undesirable is obviously subjective, here's a further breakdown of what you can block with this application:
- All capital letters
- No capital letters
- Doesn't start with a capital letter
- Excessive punctuation (!!!! ????)
- Excessive capitalization
- Profanity
- Contains any words or phrases that you deem objectionable.
So, if you want to clean up the comments section on YouTube (or just filter out anything that mentions Justin Beiber), Comment Snob is a great way to do it. Head on over to the developer's website for more information and the download links.
